Director Guillermo Del Toro Dishes on Katie Holmes

Oscar-nominated director Guillermo del Toro knows good talent when he sees it. And, that’s one of the reasons why he cast Katie Holmes in his latest film Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark.

“I loved her work,” Guillermo exclusively told OK! at the Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark press conference on Friday in San Diego, “I have always liked Katie’s work.”

The Mexican-born mastermind behind Pan’s Labyrinth and The Orphanage handpicked Mrs. Cruise for the leading female role on the 1970’s thriller remake.

“Ever since the first time I saw her in Go, she seemed to me as if she had an big energy and a reality.”

The film is based on a TV movie, which is centered on a young girl who moves in with her dad and his girlfriend, played by Katie, to realize they’re not the only occupants of the home.

“Katie was very present and she brought that to this film,” Guillermo revaled to OK!.

Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark, also starting Guy Pearce, is set to be released in January 2011.

Katie Holmes: Playing Jackie Kennedy Has Been “Fun”

Katie Holmes plays former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in The History Channel’s upcoming miniseries The Kennedys — and the best part of the gig is the clothes.

“It’s been really fun! Her clothes were magnificent,”

Holmes told UsMagazine.com at Monday’s Manhattan premiere of her flick The Extra Man.

“I feel so lucky. We have these wonderful seamstresses who are creating beautiful dresses that are obviously replicas of real things she wore. Armani made two dresses for me to wear.”

And the 31-year-old wife to Tom Cruise and mom of Suri takes inspiration from the late icon for her own style, too.

“She not only had great style, but she [was] an artist [and] a writer. She was an illustrator. She was an editor,” Holmes told.

She added:

“Her great style was both appropriate for every event that she went to and also classic, and also things that were wearable. I feel really lucky to be playing her.”

They were hailed as American royalty, so Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear have rather a tough job on their hands capturing the magic of The Kennedys. But if the latest on set sneak peek is any indication, they may well be up to the challenge. Thanks to impeccable hair, make-up and costuming, the pair looked just like the famous couple as they shot scenes for the new 8-hour TV mini-series in Ontario, Canada.

During the day she wore a lot of different outfit. Wich you prefer?

There was another little brunette on set too – Suri Cruise – and Katie took the 4-year-old for ice-cream on a break between takes.

Isabella Cruise, 17, who recently had her bob snipped into a pixie cut, was also on location.
